Construction work starts on renewable hydrogen plant for buses
It will be built in Porto Marghera, completion by summer 2026 - There will also be a workshop and a vehicle washing area
Work began in Porto Marghera (Venice) on the construction of the renewable hydrogen production plant to service the 94 hydrogen buses of AVM (Azienda Veneziana della Mobilità, which operationally manages the service through the company Actv) for the urban public transport of the Municipality of Venice.
The announcement was made by Eni and AGSM AIM Power, equal partners in the joint venture company Green Hydrogen Venezia.
The project, which envisages an investment of more than 50 million euro, has recently obtained the authorisations and the construction site is already operational for the construction of the 8 MW production plant, which will be connected via hydrogen pipeline to the bus refuelling station. The station will be built in Via dei Petroli in Porto Marghera by Enilive, Eni's company for sustainable mobility, and will also include additional services, including a parking area for buses, a workshop, a bus washing area, and a parking area for drivers.
The production capacity of the new station will be around 1,700 kg/day, and work is scheduled to be completed by summer 2026.
In June 2022, Eni inaugurated in Mestre (Venice) the first hydrogen refuelling station in Italy for road mobility, in an urban environment and open to the public. The plant, managed by Enilive, is equipped with two dispensing points, with a capacity of over 100 kg/day, able to charge cars and buses.
