Zibibbo, Maglioppo, Gaglioppo, Aglianico, Nerello, Nero di Troia. Greco di Bianco, Pecorello, Mantonico, Guarnaccia and Malvasia. The Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts: it is a journey among the great Mediterranean grape varieties - including those of Macedonia, Albania and Serbia - in the new edition of Vinitaly and The City, which, for the first time, leaves Verona and lands in Calabria. A tour of ancient Enotria, discovering age-old terroirs that are an expression of vineyards, territories, industrious communities and long traditions, in the precious setting of the Archaeological Park of Sibari.

From 30 August, thanks to the agreement between the Region of Calabria and Veronafiere Spa, in collaboration with the Regional Agency for the Development of Agriculture and the Crotone and Sibari Archaeological Parks, the region's wineries will be the protagonists for three days of an international event that, in addition to tastings, includes talks, masterclasses and cultural meetings.

The objective is to spread knowledge of the territories and wine culture. A very rich heritage: Calabria boasts 9 PDOs and 10 PGIs, a total vineyard area of over 11,000 hectares, 12,000,000 bottles and a turnover in excess of 100 million euro.

"This initiative is the fruit of the collaborative relationship that binds us to the Region of Calabria and wine producers from Calabria," says Veronafiere Director General Adolfo Rebughini. "Vinitaly and the City Calabria is a sign of the inclusive planning that has always characterised the work of VeronaFiere, but also of the event's ability to respond to the growing need to find valid tools for territorial marketing. Wine, in fact, is not just business: a large part of its value and narrative potential is linked to the land, culture and traditions, aggregation and sociality, elements that find a perfect synthesis in Calabria.

"The event testifies to the centrality that our region has acquired in the wine sector, thanks to the excellence of its wines and the skill of its producers," emphasises regional councillor for agriculture Gianluca Gallo. It also demonstrates 'the strong link between wine, the territory and the history of Calabria,' adds Governor Roberto Occhiuto.

'Never before has the quality of Calabrian wine reached such high peaks as in the last 20 years,' says Gennaro Convertini, president of the regional wine shop 'Casa dei vini di Calabria'. The tastings are ready: Gaglioppo and Magliocco, for example, will be the protagonists of a talk with tasting by journalist Giovanna Pizzi together with one of Italy's most accredited wine and food critics, Luciano Pignataro.
