Visconti and Pasolini, double anniversary at the Colombaia 'Quadro' festival

On the day of their shared anniversary - birth for Luchino Visconti and death for Pier Paolo Pasolini - the first edition of "Quadro - Oltre l'occhio la realtà" will kick off on 2 November at Villa La Colombaia in Forio d'Ischia, for years the summer residence of the director of Ossessione. The event aims to open an ideal dialogue between the two Italian masters, comparing the form and body of reality, beauty and dissent.

Opening the event will be Mario Martone, the protagonist of a meeting devoted to the figure and artistic legacy of Visconti and his relationship with the Colombaia. Following this, the ArteSettima Collective will record an original podcast on the relationship between cinema and visual thought in the company of the director. The programme will continue until 7 November with a series of meetings, screenings and lectures open to the public, which will allow the evocative Ischian residence of Visconti to be rediscovered in the autumn light and restored to its most authentic vocation, that of a home of thought and image.

The events also include a talk by the director of the Goethe-Institut in Naples, Maria Carmen Morese, who will introduce the screening of Death in Venice with a reflection on Mann, Visconti and the sea as destiny, while on 5 November the day will focus on Visconti, the realistic genre and irrational history with Salvatore Iervolino, an independent curator who has worked over the years on Jean-Luc Godard, Béla Tarr and Mohsen Makhmalbaf.

"The Colombaia is once again a living place of culture," says the Mayor of Forio, Stanislao Verde, "capable of dialoguing with the great Italian cinematographic and literary tradition. With this initiative we celebrate two directors who have given our country a new and universal language, restoring Forio to the role it deserves in the cultural geography of Campania.
