Vision Bmw Alpina: the link between luxury and performance debuts at Villa d'Este
The new family of cars aims to bridge the gap between Bmw's top-of-the-range models and Rolls-Royce's, combining the historic legacy of the 'shark nose' with a hand-crafted interior and the high performance guaranteed by the V8 engine
The year 2026 can now be described as a turning point for Alpina. After the acquisition completed in January, the Buchloe-based brand officially enters a new strategic phase within the BMW Group. The positioning, which had created some doubts after the acquisition, is now defined with extreme clarity: Alpina is positioned at the top end of the BMW range, filling the gap that separates the Munich company's top models from the pinnacle of absolute luxury represented by Rolls-Royce.
The announcement of this 'rebirth' took place during the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2026. On the shores of Lake Como, the world premiere of the Vision Bmw Alpina was presented, a design study that takes the spiritual legacy of the legendary B7 coupé of the 1970s and turns it into a car with all the trappings of today.
Design: the synthesis of shark nose and 'speed line
The car immediately stands out for its length of an impressive 5.22 metres combined with a low, sleek silhouette. The coupe-like roof, long and sloping, nevertheless leaves enough space inside, ensuring maximum roominess for four adults. The front end is dominated by the famous "shark nose", which revisits the famous BMW double kidney, which is now proposed in a three-dimensional sculpture incorporating the Alpina logo.
The aesthetic heart of the design is the so-called 'speed line'. This is a special visual element that starts at a six-degree angle from the nose, runs along the entire side and rejoins the rear. There is no shortage of historical references, such as the classic deco-lines from 1974, here proposed in a modern version and painted directly under the clear coat. The Alpina inscription, reinterpreted in shiny metal, signs the front bumper, while the 22- and 23-inch wheels reproduce the iconic 20-spoke design of 1971.
