Volkswagen Polo goes electric and does so by calling itself ID. Polo. After saying goodbye to the ID.2 acronym, the zero-emission compact car will hit the road after the summer in combination with two battery packs with a range of up to 450 kilometres. Produced at the Spanish plant in Martorell, it is based on the front-wheel-drive Meb+ platform also used for the Cupra Raval, Skoda Epiq and Volkswagen ID.Cross. For now, the bodywork is still slightly camouflaged, but the German manufacturer has released a long list of details, in anticipation of the official debut and the opening of orders expected next spring.
Slightly shorter than the thermal model, 405 cm versus 407 cm, it increases in width, height and wheelbase with measurements of 182 cm, 153 cm and 260 cm. Load capacity also increases, with a declared volume of 435 litres.
The electric Volkswagen Polo will arrive with two battery sizes, starting with the smaller 37 Kwh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) type with 300 km range and 11 kW AC and 90 kW AC recharging capacity. Alternatively, the ID.Polo will be powered by a 52 Kwh Nmc (Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt) cell-to-pack battery pack with 450 km of autonomy and Hpc recharging at 130 kW. Four power levels arrive on the electric Polo: 116, 135, 211 or 226 hp, with the latter dedicated to the Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI expected in 2027. Differences from the compact ID.3 include a more efficient Adas package and disc brakes at the rear as well.
