Employees of the Volkswagen have been called to stop work at German factories starting tomorrow to oppose thousands of planned job cuts. This was declared by the trade union Ig Metall.
The union's position
."If necessary, this will be the toughest collective bargaining battle Volkswagen has ever seen," the union warned in a statement, after bargaining with the company over the future of 120,000 brand employees in Germany.
Complex situation
.The situation is very complex. The next meeting between Volkswagen and Ig Metall is scheduled for mid-December, but the positions are still very far apart after last week's no-deal. The company had put on the table the closure of three plants, proposed exits with a 10% pay cut to those remaining. The union proposed a counter-plan based on cutting bonuses for management, also reducing company benefits and hours worked for the same salary. According to Ig Metall, Volkswagen must also review its dividend policy and tighten the purse strings with the shareholders.
