Volkswagen has unveiled the three long-awaited concept cars that will make their debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in the coming days. The concepts created in a joint venture with three Chinese giants, Saic, Anhui and Faw, are fully representative of a generation of new intelligent battery-powered cars, an integral part of the product strategy that Volkswagen will be launching in the coming years. In fact, the brand plans to launch more than 30 new models, 20 of which will be in China's most popular sectors by the end of 2027. These will include the production cars of the three concept cars, with design and technology adapted to the needs of Chinese customers.

ID. EVO

Based on the concept three cars for China

.

The three concepts belong to the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) category. In China, the sector includes battery-powered cars as well as plug-in or extended-range vehicles. All series versions of the presented concepts will be equipped with artificial intelligence-based systems for automated driving. They will, therefore, be able to reach Level 2++ as early as 2026, which means that in certain situations they will be able to drive with perfect autonomy, including overtaking manoeuvres, turning and merging into traffic, albeit with direct driver supervision.

ID. ERA

The ID. Era is an SUV with three rows of seats

.

THE ID. Era made in collaboration with Saic is a spacious SUV with three rows of seats that anticipates the first model of the Volkswagen brand equipped with range extender technology. A fuel-powered generator will recharge the battery while driving and offer an additional range of over 700 km. Adding the 300 km range in battery mode, the concept car can thus cover more than 1,000 km. THE ID. Evo, on the other hand, which is made in collaboration with the Chinese in Anhui, is primarily aimed at a younger, lifestyle-conscious public, but also eager to stand out.

ID. EVO

The ID: Evo and the ID. Aura complete the offer

.

Based on an 800 Volt platform, the ID. Evo is the first fully electric SUV in the ID. Unyx family for Volkswagen's China. The concept features a high-performance electronic zone architecture that facilitates a wide range of new digital services to systematically offer an unprecedented driving experience through over-the-air upgrades. Finally The ID. Aura built with the Chinese company Faw is the first concept based on the Compact Main Platform (CMP) with a zoned electronic architecture designed specifically for the Chinese market.

ID. AURA

The humanoid based on artificial intelligence

.

The high computing capacity of the ID. Aura is not only based on artificial intelligence, but also includes an automated driving system. All for the smartest possible solution. The concept is an electric three-box car developed for price-conscious A-segment buyers who demand modern technology and design. The smartphone-like user interface and user experience (UI/UX) is integrated into the car's centre console. Finally, the artificial intelligence-based humanoid assistant ensures ideal control of all car and infotainment functions.
