Iran: Netanyahu appeal to citizens, 'oppose radical Tehran tyranny'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a direct appeal to the 'good people of Iran' to stand up to the 'radical tyranny' of Tehran, stating that 'a light has been turned on, bring it towards freedom'. In a 13-minute interview with the London-based 'Iran International' channel, the Israeli leader insisted that 'you are not our enemies. We are not your enemies'. "We have a common enemy and we are fighting it firmly, and I believe you will soon have the opportunity to be free," he added. Israel has been launching devastating attacks for days across Iran, which has responded with volleys of missiles.

On Monday, in another interview, the premier said Iranians now consider their government "much weaker than they thought" and urged them to put pressure on their leaders. "This is evil versus good, and it's time for good people to stand with the good people - the good people of Iran and the good people around the world - against this madness imposed on all of us by this radical tyranny," he told Iran International. "I know that Iran can become great again. It was a great civilisation and this theological violence that kidnapped your country will not last long," he added. "A light has been lit, bring it towards freedom. It is up to the Iranian people."

Netanyahu does not rule out killing Khamenei

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with ABC News, did not rule out the possibility of targeting and killing Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Netanyahu said that targeting Khamenei would not lead to escalation but rather end the war that began on Friday between Israel and Iran. Asked by the interviewer about the news that US President Donald Trump had rejected an Israeli plan to assassinate Khamenei fearing that it would escalate the conflict, Netanyahu replied: 'It will not escalate the conflict, it will end it'. Then, when asked specifically about whether Israel will indeed target the Iranian supreme leader, Netanyahu replied that Israel 'is doing what we have to do'.

"We have experienced half a century of conflict caused by this regime that terrorises everyone in the Middle East, has bombed the Aramco oil fields in Saudi Arabia and is spreading terrorism, subversion and sabotage everywhere," Netanyahu said. "The 'eternal war' is what Iran wants, and it is bringing us to the brink of a nuclear war. In reality, what Israel is doing is preventing this from happening by putting an end to this aggression, and we can only do this by standing up to the forces of evil," he said.

Netanyahu then stated that he was not interested in talks with Iran to de-escalate the war. "They want to continue to hold these fictitious talks in which they lie, cheat and pull the United States along. And, you know, we have extremely reliable intelligence information on this," Netanyahu said. "They want to continue building," he continued, "their nuclear weapons and their massive arsenal of ballistic missiles, which they are launching against our people," he added. "They want to allow themselves to create," he continued, "two existential threats against Israel while pretending to dialogue. But this will not happen."

Grossi (IAEA): no signs of further damage to nuclear sites

Rafael Grossi, head of the UN nuclear watchdog, gave an update on the situation at Iran's nuclear facilities following the military strikes launched by Israel, saying there were no signs of further damage at the enrichment sites in Natanz or Fordow, following those recorded over the weekend in Isfahan.

Grossi and the International Atomic Energy Agency he chairs had previously reported that the smallest of Iran's three enrichment plants, an above-ground facility at the vast Natanz nuclear complex, had been destroyed.

Although there were no signs of a physical attack on the largest underground enrichment plant at Natanz, its power supply was interrupted, which may have damaged the uranium enrichment centrifuges present. No damage was found at the Fordow plant, which was dug into a mountain.

"There has been no further damage to the Natanz fuel enrichment plant site since Friday's attack, which destroyed the above-ground portion of the pilot fuel enrichment plant," Grossi said in a statement to an extraordinary meeting of his agency's 35-nation Board of Governors.

The US Air Force has carried out an unprecedented massive deployment of KC-135 and KC-46 tanker aircraft over the Atlantic from bases on the US mainland, fuelling considerable speculation that the aircraft may be intended to participate in the ongoing Israeli-Iranian war. Another possibility, according to the magazine, would be that the aircraft will eventually be used to refuel US Air Force and Navy fighters and bombers should the US enter the war more actively.

With Netanyahu, he further said, 'we also discussed Gaza. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is unacceptable.
