Hamas: 'We have lost control over 80 per cent of Gaza'

A senior Hamas security forces officer told the BBC that the Palestinian armed group has lost control over 80 per cent of the Gaza Strip and that armed clans are filling this vacuum. 'Let's be realistic: there is almost nothing left of the security structure. Most of the leaders, about 95 per cent, are now dead.... The active figures have all been killed," he said, "so what is stopping Israel from continuing this war?" According to the official, Hamas attempted to regroup during the 57-day ceasefire with Israel earlier this year, reorganising its political, military and security councils. But then Israel ended the truce in March, targeting the remaining Hamas command structures and leaving the group in chaos. 'As for security, I want to be clear: it has completely collapsed. Completely destroyed. There is no more control anywhere," the official reiterated.

Idf reservist, civilians killed arbitrarily in Gaza

An Israeli reservist who served three tours of duty in Gaza told Sky News, in a rare on-camera interview, that his unit was often ordered to shoot anyone who entered areas defined by soldiers as no-go zones, regardless of whether they posed a threat or not, a practice he said left civilians dead on the ground. 'We have a territory we are in, and the orders are: anyone who enters must die,' he explained, 'If they are inside, they are dangerous, you have to kill them. It doesn't matter who it is'. Speaking anonymously, the soldier claimed that 'troops were killing civilians arbitrarily', adding that the criteria for opening fire on civilians varied depending on the commander. The soldier is a reservist in the 252nd Division of the Israel Defence Forces . He was twice assigned to the Netzarim corridor, a narrow strip of land that runs through the central Gaza Strip at the beginning of the war, from the sea to the border with Israel.

Negotiations in Doha, but Gaza truce start teetering

The delegations are ready for the talks, an entire building has been reserved in Doha to accommodate the Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams in different rooms, while mediators from Egypt and Qatar will be shuttling in to bring messages and propose alternatives. On Sunday, while the Jerusalem team was already in the air, Premier Benyamin Netanyahu left on the Wing of Zion for Washington, where he will be received by President Donald Trump at the White House for the third time in six months. The meeting, according to Netanyahu's office, will take place on Monday at 6.30 p.m., but there will not be the quick toast to the victory over Iran on world television originally planned: Donald and Bibi, according to press rumours, will dine together and talk about Gaza, Tehran and the ongoing negotiations to find a historic solution in the relations between Syria and Israel. Commentators consider it unlikely that the US president will be able to declare a ceasefire in the Strip during the prime minister's visit, as was considered feasible in recent days. In fact, the assessment is that the agreement to announce the truce will take a few days before it is finalised as there are significant distances between the two sides. Hamas while making itself available to resume talks, unlike Israel, has accepted the proposal but asking for changes. The plan calls for a two-month ceasefire, the release of 10 hostages alive and 18 dead, and a partial withdrawal of the IDF from the Strip. But, in the message sent to Doha on Friday, it called for several amendments that the Israeli government branded "unacceptable". However, the readiness for rapprochement indicates thatb>both sides share the desire to realise the agreement. On Sunday morning Netanyahu was received by Israel's highest institutional office, President Isaac Herzog, who emphasised the urgency of reaching a result. The Saudi broadcaster Asharq meanwhile reported Hamas' full requests: the entry into Gaza of 400-600 trucks of aid a day managed by the UN, UNRWA and international organisations to be distributed in hundreds of points instead of the Gaza foundation; the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions for the exit of Gaza citizens and the entry of aid from the Egyptian side. And, again, the departure of more than 20,000 sick and wounded from the enclave to Egypt and other countries as well as details on the withdrawal of the IDF with a view to a complete exit from the Strip, including the Philadelphia axis. Finally, Hamas calls for guarantees that there will be no return to fighting "in any form as long as the talks continue", while advocating indirect negotiations leading to a "permanent and complete ceasefire". The points of strong disagreement with Israel mainly concern the management of humanitarian aid, which according to Jerusalem (and Washington) has allowed Hamas to profit from it for almost two decades. Then, Tsahal's exit from the Strip. Israel wants to keep troops in the Philadelphia corridor, on the border with Egypt, and in the buffer zones expanded during the war. But, above all, it wants the complete disarmament of Hamas, so that Gaza ceases to be a threat. Finding common ground will not be easy. But both sides understand that this is the last good chance to get out of the quagmire of war and bring home the last 20 kidnapped people still alive. Before boarding the flight to Washington, Netanyahu declared that Israel now has the opportunity 'to expand the circle of peace far beyond what could have been imagined'. However, the raids in the Strip do not stop: medical sources in Gaza report that in the last 24 hours alone, hospitals have received 80 dead and 304 wounded, pointing out that several victims remain under rubble, with rescue operations blocked due to the intensity of the shelling. Attacks have intensified, reports Wafa, especially on the city of Deir al-Balah.

Media: 'Rape as a weapon of war', report on Hamas crimes

A new report, the most detailed to date, documents the widespread and systematic use of sexual violence as a weapon of war by Hamas terrorists during the 7 October massacre. Funded in part by the British government and written by Israeli gender and legal experts, it will be presented tomorrow in Jerusalem. The Sunday Times reports. The document includes testimonies from 15 hostages freed from Gaza, a survivor of the attempted rape at the Nova festival, and dozens of rescuers and eyewitnesses. The report, called 'Project Dinah', states that gang violence and rape was perpetrated in at least six different locations, including the Nova festival, Road 232, the Nahal Oz military base, and the kibbutzim of Re'im, Nir Oz and Kfar Aza. In many cases, the victims were murdered during the attack or were traumatised to the point of being unable to testify. Recurring patterns include naked or semi-naked women tied to trees or poles, signs of gang rape, genital mutilation and attempted rape even on dead bodies. The document also includes sexual abuse of hostages during captivity in Gaza, including two men. The report was written by a team led by Professor Ruth Halperin-Kaddari, with the collaboration of former military prosecutor Sharon Zagagi-Pinhas and retired judge Nava Ben-Or. The authors denounce the indifference of international institutions, in particular the UN agencies, accused of ignoring the voices of the victims. The report asks the UN Secretary General to send a commission of enquiry and to include Hamas in the black list of organisations that use sexual violence as a weapon of war.
