‘Let us therefore free our coexistence from suspicion, culture from arrogance, education from ideology, work from the idolatry of profit, and technology and finance from the business of death.’ This is one of the passages from the speech delivered by Pope Leo from the stage at the Rimini Meeting. “Starting with the organisations we have created and within which we operate,” the Pontiff continued, “let us expose the unjust power structures that lie at the root of poverty and inequality, of war and environmental disasters. Let us rein in technological development when it becomes pervasive and destructive. We need courageous pioneers who, by changing their own course, can make the conversion required of us all convincing and credible.”
Israeli Foreign Minister: ‘We have no interest in an escalation with Turkey’
Israel “has no interest in an escalation with Turkey”. This was stated by the Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar during an interview with Channel 12 following tensions with Ankara over a recent attack by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in Syria, carried out in response to the alleged deployment of Turkish troops at the base. “We are committed to preserving the status quo”, Sa’ar emphasised, adding: “We will not accept the establishment of Turkish bases in Syria.” Sa’ar explained that Israel has observed how Iran has managed to infiltrate Lebanon and Gaza, and added: “We do not want the same situation to arise with Turkey and Syria.” The minister added that Israel “always prefers” diplomatic solutions and reiterated that there is no intention to escalate tensions with Turkey.
