Former producer Harvey Weinstein was hospitalised in New York and underwent surgery after complaining of an illness in prison. The former Hollywood kingpin, whose 2020 conviction was overturned on a technicality, is still being held in Rykers Island prison awaiting a judicial decision on whether to try him again or transfer him to California where a 16-year sentence behind bars awaits him. Weinstein is now in intensive care at Bellvue Hospital awaiting the results of new tests. On Monday he underwent a procedure to remove fluid from his heart and lungs, a spokesman announced. In July, the former Miramax boss had ended up in hospital for "a myriad" of health problems including Covid's and double pneumonia, which were added to "conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and spinal stenosis" from which the former producer has long suffered.
