Weleda, a company for certified natural cosmetics and anthroposophical medicines, has opened its new logistics centre - the Weleda Cradle Campus - in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, an example of environmental, economic and social sustainability. Its architecture has already received recognition for its innovative approach. Built mainly with local wood and rammed earth, powered by solar and geothermal energy, the new facility operates without emissions. The design was developed in consultation with employees to meet their needs and expectations.
With an investment of EUR 90 million, this new logistics centre represents the company's largest economic commitment.
"The Cradle Campus aligns perfectly with Weleda's strategy. It represents responsible growth - growth in harmony with people and nature,' says Weleda CEO Tina Müller. 'The project's holistic approach, which incorporates the principles of the circular economy and strengthens biodiversity, is setting new standards for the economy. Protecting our planet requires new ways of thinking and acting. It is not enough simply to do less damage to natural resources. We must actively restore and restore the foundations of life. We must operate in a regenerative manner. Sustainability and growth are not opposing forces. Sustainability drives growth'.
The Cradle Campus links Weleda's past and future, as Thomas Jorberg, chairman of the Weleda board of directors, says: "It embodies the values that have guided us since the company's foundation: sustainability, respect for nature and social responsibility. At the same time, the campus serves as a model for how companies operate today and in the future'.
With the new building, the brand consolidated its international central logistics, previously spread over six locations, into one hub. As part of this initiative, the company digitised its logistics processes and significantly improved the efficiency of picking and shipping orders for its customers through a high-capacity automated warehouse. Thanks to the new wooden facility with a capacity of 17,200 pallets, Weleda has significantly expanded its logistics capacities. Under standard operating conditions, up to 10,000 orders will be shipped daily from the Cradle Campus to 47 countries worldwide.
