The Italian Bending Spoons, owner of apps such as Evernote and Meetup, has acquired the file transfer service WeTransfer. The latter, many know from using it, is a system that allows users to send large files via the Internet.
Its activity, on closer inspection, is based on several technologies. In this sense, WeTransfer exploits cloud computing and storage infrastructures to manage the uploading, temporary storage and downloading of files.
According to the specialised website Tech Crunch, the CEO of WeTransfer, Alexandar Vassilev, said that in the last decade, the platform's development has led to 600,000 subscribers and 80 million monthly active users.
"Nurturing creative communities and amplifying their voices has been the key to our success. Some of Bending Spoons's most successful products are tools in the service of creativity, so we are confident that this milestone will complement both activities, fuel our growth, and help us create even more value for the creative industries at large," Vassilev said in a statement.
The Dutch company had last raised €25m from Highland Capital Partners in 2015 to expand its presence. In 2019, the company raised €35m in a Series B round from European growth capital firm HPE Growth, with significant Highland Europe through secondary sales.
