Who is Mario Burlò, the Turin entrepreneur released in Venezuela
He had been detained in Caracas since November 2024, when he was stopped at a checkpoint. He was in the South American country to seek business opportunities
The odyssey is over for Mario Burlò, the Turin entrepreneur detained for months in Venezuela, released in the past hours together with the cooperator Alberto Trentini. Burlò, who is now in the Italian embassy in Caracas waiting for the plane from Rome that will take him back to Italy, was arrested in Venezuela in November 2024.
He was stopped at a checkpoint while travelling from Caracas to Guasdualito oncharges that have never been clarified and his lawyers have always stressed that he was detained 'arbitrarily' without any charges being laid against him. Burlò, who had told his family he was leaving for Venezuela to explore new business opportunities, resides just outside the Piedmontese capital and heads several companies.
In February 2025, he was absolved in the Court of Cassation for external complicity in mafia association in a trial on the 'ndrangheta in Piedmont and in recent days the Court of Turin had reversed his position on the Auxilium Basket bankruptcy.
