It happened on the morning of 2 July. Adinolfi, who had recently - about twenty days - become a councillor of the Court of Appeal, left his home in Via della Farnesina to go to the library in the civil court in Rome, Viale Giulio Cesare.
To his wife Nicoletta and children Giovanna and Lorenzo (who today prefers not to get involved) he had given a lunch appointment. Of him, however, no news arrived. In the afternoon, thus the concern of his family, who, after looking for him in his office, went to talk to the police. A few hours later, his car was found in the Olympic Village.

The investigation, which was handled by the Perugia public prosecutor's office, was filed twice. The first, about a year later. The second, reopened in 1996, was more thorough, but equally archived in 2003.
What investigators believe could explain the judge's disappearance was his past in the bankruptcy section of the Rome court. His main post, held from 1977, after a seven-year interlude in Milan.
