WindRunner: new agreement between Mimit and Radia
The second memorandum reaffirms the Government’s interest in the project for the world’s largest aeroplane, which the multinational company intends to manufacture in Italia

A new collaboration agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT) and the aerospace company Radia, aimed at developing the WindRunner, a new-generation ultra-large cargo aircraft. It is the largest aircraft in the world and is currently being developed to enable the direct transport of exceptional cargo to locations that are difficult to access via conventional logistics systems.
The programme aims to address critical gaps in global logistics and strategic mobility, supporting key sectors such as defence, energy, industry and aerospace. By reducing delivery times from months to days or even hours, the WindRunner will improve supply chain resilience and support both national security and commercial applications.
The aircraft’s unprecedented payload capacity and its ability to operate from compacted unpaved runways will open up new possibilities for strategic mobility, defence logistics, energy infrastructure development, the aerospace sector and other manufacturing activities, as well as for humanitarian operations.

Through the memorandum of understanding, MIMIT and Radia will work to engage the Italian aerospace and industrial sectors in the WindRunner programme. Italia already plays an important role in Radia’s growing international presence: the company has one of its main offices outside the United States in Rome.
