The 'Sustainable School Award' recognises ideas and projects of the younger generation

Schools play a central role in training the new generations in sustainability and encouraging positive change in society. To reward the commitment of students, students and teachers, the Premio Scuola Sostenibile (Sustainable School Award) was created, a Sole 24 Ore award dedicated to Italian schools that stand out for innovative projects and virtuous ideas in the environmental, social and economic spheres, combining the theme of sustainability in its various meanings.

The initiative, realised in collaboration with the Pontifical Committee for the World Children's Day, is free of charge and open to all primary and secondary schools in grades I and II. The aim is to valorise both experiences already implemented and new proposals capable of integrating sustainability into teaching, resource management and the involvement of the school and local community. The projects can cover different areas of sustainability, from the responsible use of resources to the promotion of inclusive and solidarity-based practices, from green mobility to healthy lifestyles, from recycling to energy saving, and more.

A commission of experts will evaluate the applications and select the winning schools for each school grade. The award ceremony will take place on 22 October 2025 in Rome as part of the Forum Sostenibilità 2025 organised by Il Sole 24 Ore: the event will provide an important opportunity for dialogue between the world of schools and that of the most virtuous companies in the field of sustainability, also from an ethical and values point of view. Nominations for the Sustainable School Award will remain open until 6 June 2025.
