Qatar: 'Closing on Friday', Trump: 'Maybe I'll go on Sunday' Hamas: 20 hostages alive

If the Gaza Plan succeeds, Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, according to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who does not hide the difficulties in the ongoing negotiations, but gives the US president credit for his attempt to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, paving the way for the prospect of a two-state solution

Qatari mediators: 'Closing on Friday', but Israel's veto on Barghouti

With the arrival in Sharm el Sheik of the US president's two envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the US Middle East envoy and advisor (and Trump's son-in-law), the Israeli chief negotiator, the Qatar premier, and the official presence of the Turkish intelligence chief, the negotiation of the Gaza peace agreement and the release of all hostages entered the operational phase.

The statements reported by the Arab media are positive, the Israeli ones more cautious, but nevertheless optimistic. The well-informed Channel 12 newswire reports that the Qatari mediators believe that an agreement can be reached by Friday: the goal is to announce the agreement this week and to start releasing the hostages next week. This is confirmed by a White House official, according to whom there is "good progress in the talks and an agreement could be reached within a few days".

After the first round of talks, we now enter the delicate phase, starting with the exchange of hostages and Israeli prisoners held in Israeli cells. The parties have exchanged lists. And that of Hamas, which is asking for more than the 250 expected lifers, would count names - such as those of Barghouti and Saadat - that for Israel remain a red line.

The issue of the release of the abductees also remains, especially those now lifeless for whom the Palestinian faction has announced that it will take a long time to track them down.

Also to be resolved, after the truce has been reached and the abductees released, is the issue of disarmament and the withdrawal of the IDF, a point on which Doha has asked for precise guarantees.

Media, Hamas agreed to release all hostages

The mediators assured the Palestinian delegation that if an agreement is reached, President Trump will declare an end to the war

Hamas has provided information on "around 20 hostages still alive": Israeli officials told Channel 12. Media: for Hamas, the release of Barghouti is central

Hamas intends to obtain the release of Marwan Barghouti as part of the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip: this is what the Times of Israel reports, citing sources close to the negotiations. Barghouti is currently serving a life sentence in an Israeli prison for planning attacks during the Second Intifada that cost the lives of five Israeli civilians, but he has always denied all charges.

Barghouti is considered a potential successor to Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas: an advocate of the two-state solution, he remains one of the most popular Palestinian leaders.ù

Barghouti and the illustrious detainees: the crux of the exchange that may break down the negotiations

Roberto Bongiorniby Roberto Bongiorni

The most popular leader among the Palestinians, once the leader of Tanzim, the military wing of Fatah, was arrested in 2002, at the height of the Second Intifada, and sentenced to five life sentences. This 66-year-old man is a dangerous terrorist in the eyes of many Israelis, a hero in the eyes of most Palestinians, a potential interlocutor for many opposition figures in the Jewish state, but also for several Western leaders, and the only one considered capable of mending the deep rifts between the different Palestinian souls.

Spanish Parliament approves arms embargo to and from Israel

The Spanish Parliament has just approved a decree-law establishing an arms embargo on arms to and from Israel, a measure strongly supported by Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez with the declared aim of 'stopping the genocide' taking place in the Gaza Strip. The measure was adopted with 178 votes in favour and 169 against, thanks also to the support of the four deputies of the radical left-wing party Podemos, who had kept their position confidential until a few hours before. Spain introduced the embargo in a context of strong diplomatic tensions and growing international pressure on the Tel Aviv government over the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Lavrov: Trump plan for Gaza is currently the 'best option'

Israel, Paris summit on Gaza useless and harmful

Israel called tomorrow's ministerial meeting in Paris on the post-war Gaza transition "unnecessary and harmful". "The new initiative of the French government, at such a delicate moment of the negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh, is superfluous and harmful, like the previous ones. We see a further attempt by President Macron to divert attention from his problems," Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wrote on X. According to the Israeli diplomacy holder, "the invitation to governments that are openly hostile to Israel, such as that of Sanchez (the Spanish prime minister, ed.), is particularly unacceptable." "Of course, the participants can address the issues they wish, but no agreement on Gaza can ever be concluded without Israel's consent," he concluded.

Friedman (Nyt), if Gaza plan works Trump deserves Nobel

Borgia (Freedom Flotilla): 'Pirate action from Israel, blitz with lights out'

"They attacked them in international waters, once again a pirate action. We expected that for the Conscience ship there would be, for once, more understanding given that there are medical professionals and 18 tons of medical equipment on board, but there wasn't". Michele Borgia, spokesperson for the Italian delegation of the Freedom Flotilla, told Adnkronos, commenting on tonight's boarding of eight sailboats and a ship of the Freedom Flotilla and the Thousand Madleens intercepted at dawn by the Israeli armed forces, about 120 nautical miles from Gaza.

According to reports, the boarding of the ship Conscience took place at 4.30 a.m. (Italian time), while that of the boats of the Thousand Madleens, a little later in the journey, at around 2.30 a.m.: 'This time, too, they stopped them with an even more instantaneous action than in the past,' adds Borgia. 'They didn't have time to notice. They arrived in the night, with the lights off to board them: they approached very quickly and even hacked one of our circuits.

The people on board only realised what was happening when the helicopters arrived because, being a ship, the military also descended from above with cables'. The spokesman reiterates that the boats 'had not approached the red zone before today, 8 October, precisely because 7 was a provocation. The intention is absolutely peaceful. We want to break the blockade, but politically, not with actions of force'. Around 10 Italians are involved in the second Flotillas expedition: specifically, there are 4 Italians on board the ship Conscience (two doctors, a nurse and a journalist), the others are on the sailing boats.
