Woman jumps out of window with three children, she and two children dead
One of the children was 4 years old, the other 4 months. The eldest daughter, 5 and a half years old, is in intensive care
A woman and two small children, one aged four years and one four months, died while a five-and-a-half year old girl is in intensive care, after the woman threw herself out of a window holding her three children. The tragedy occurred in Catanzaro, in Zanotti Bianco street. The woman threw herself from the third floor of the building where she lived. The five-and-a-half-year-old girl is in serious condition in intensive care at Catanzaro hospital. The investigation is being conducted by the Catanzaro Mobile Squad and coordinated by the public prosecutor Graziella. The hypothesis considered most probable is murder-suicide.
Investigators from the Catanzaro Mobile Squad, together with forensic police personnel, carried out an inspection inside the flat where the woman lived. The matter is being kept confidential and it is not known whether there were other people in the house at the time of the tragedy. The investigators, however, from what has been heard, seem to have little doubt that it was a deliberate act.
Investigations on the state of women's health
Investigators from the Catanzaro Mobile Squad, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office, are reconstructing the state of health, including her past, of the 46-year-old woman who threw herself into the void from the third floor, taking her three children with her. The prevailing hypothesis is that it was a voluntary act. The investigations also aim to reconstruct the woman's personal relationships, but above all to check whether there were any recent or older states of depression. Even if the hypothesis is that of a murder-suicide, the investigators still intend to investigate further in order to exclude with certainty the intervention of third parties, which is not being considered at the moment. A contribution to the reconstruction of the dynamics of what happened could come from the images of the security cameras in the area that investigators are viewing. The hypothesis is that the 46-year-old woman threw her children into the void and then, in turn, threw herself. When rescuers intervened, the woman was holding a rosary. According to information, her husband was asleep at the time of the tragedy and did not notice anything. Only after hearing the noises and finding no one there did he go down to the street and discover what had happened. An inspection of the flat was carried out by Public Prosecutor Graziella Viscomi and Mobile Squad leader Rosaria Di Blasi together with forensic police personnel who carried out the findings.
Mayor: city mourning
'Today we woke up to this tragic news, which has left us dismayed'. Thus Nicola Fiorita, mayor of Catanzaro, where a 46-year-old woman, Anna Democrito, jumped from the third floor of a building in the night with her children in tow. She and two of the three children, aged 4 months and 4 years, died instantly, while the third daughter, aged 5 and a half, is in hospital, where she is fighting for her life. "It is a situation of no particular hardship," says the first citizen, "but an 'invisible hardship', probably exacerbated in recent months, after the birth of the last child. Both she and her husband worked, the neighbourhood where they lived was residential, right in the centre, the woman attended the parish, and nothing could have predicted what happened. We will proclaim city mourning,' Fiorita announces, 'and in the meantime we are rooting for little Maria, also trying to figure out how to help her husband and what remains of this family to recover.
