Eight women and one man enlivened the first evening of the Trento Festival of Economics with a performance with the provocative title 'Women are not funny'.

On stage at the city's Philharmonic are eight actresses and one man determined to successfully prove that women are professional comedians.

The protagonists

.

On stage were Beatrice Baldaccini, actress and performer, Aurora Camilli, actress and stand-up comedian, Claudia Campolongo, actress and musician, Alice De Andrè, Ginevra Fenyes and Corinna Grandi, actresses and comedians, Elisa Marinoni, actress, comedian and speaker, Davide Paniate, comedian and presenter, and Alice Redini, actress and author.

Daily Life Laughter

.

The numerous spectators witnessed the performance of a female comedy club, which overturns all stereotypes with monologues, improvisation and music to prove that humour has no gender. Funny, irreverent and free, the protagonists take turns on stage, accompanied by a conductor who observes, participates and... survives.

The monologues in the show take their cue from the events of everyday life, always reinterpreted with great irony.

The provocation

.

'Women do not make people laugh,' says Davide Paniati, a provocation debunked thanks to the skill of the eight women with whom I shared the stage. Because making people laugh is not a problem of gender, but of skill'.

The comedians and the presenter on stage, therefore, do not miss a beat to break a lance in favour of female comedy professionals. "Women don't make people laugh," Aurora Camilli states decisively, "they have arrived in Trento like an army of Valkyries, ready to asphyxiate you with laughter!

According to Camilli, we live in a country that, even in the field of comedy, underestimates the value of women. 'Let's face it,' adds Camilli, 'men are funnier is a phrase we often hear repeated. This prejudice is confirmed by the scarcity of pink quotas in television comedy programmes and live stand-up comedy. And yet here we are, we are many and we are good'.

Repair in depletion

.

Paniati believes that for years it was mistakenly thought that women had a hard time being funny. However, the fact that female comedians are multiplying is a fact. 'It is a growing trend,' explains Paniati, 'thanks to the commitment, professionalism and skill of newcomers. Until the day comes, which I think has already been here for a while, when it will only be the stage and not outdated prejudices that decide who can make people laugh and who cannot'.

Funny commonplaces

.

And so Corinna Grandi debunks the cliché of women's comic inability: 'Women are not funny? Yes yes, I've heard of them. Well, it's undeniable, considering that here it used to be all country and weather permitting. Because - you know - red in the evening good weather. Not to mention, then, that mum is always mum, that there is only one mum, and that - also - all the mums in the world are beautiful. Then, of course, the black pork wears off, nothing is thrown away and there are no longer any half seasons. Above all, I would like to leave an important reflection, because Venice is beautiful but I wouldn't live there, I who am from Sondrio. But I would advise everyone to take a trip there and then maybe re-evaluate Venice. That said, if I don't see you again, Merry Christmas to you and family!'.
