Seven days of fashion shows, presentations, events. For a total of over 170 appointments on the official calendar of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion. And then two trade fairs: Lineapelle, which together with Simac Tanning Tech is a showcase for over 1,300 companies in the tanning sector, and the more collected Filo, dedicated to the upstream part of the textile chain. And, again, numerous appointments in the showrooms for purchases of the spring-summer 2026 collections: with about 1,000 showrooms, including mono and multi-brands, Milan is one of the most important marketplaces for international fashion on a commercial level.

Economic impact on the city up 12.3%, but average expenditure down

These and other factors make the Women's Fashion Week starting today a golden event for the city of Milan and the surrounding area, with the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza estimating a total induced revenue of just under 240 million euros (according to the Study Centre, 238.9 million) +12.3% compared to the September fashion week of 2024. Narrowing the focus on the various expenditure items, it emerges that just under half of the value of the allied industries - 46%, almost 110 million euros - is destined for shopping; this is followed by catering and accommodation, which will absorb, again according to estimates, 39% of expenditure and thus more than 93 million euros. Finally, 15% (35.8 million euro) will be spent on transport.

Adding these figures to those of the February fashion week, the two Women's Fashion Weeks 2025 brought 423.6 million euros to Milan (+7.1% on 2024) with the help of almost 262,000 visitors (+6.9% on 2024).According to the Chamber of Commerce, this Women's Fashion Week - which has a higher weight on the total induced: about 56% - should attract about 15% more visitors than the September 2024 week: over 149,300 people, 46% from abroad, 54% from the rest of Italy. Average expenditure, on the other hand, would be down compared to last year: the average per capita figure during this Women's Fashion Week would be €1,600 (-2.3% on 2024) with foreigners' spending (€1,664) higher than that of Italians (€1,535).

Armani, Gucci and many others: the protagonists

.

Meanwhile, one of the most eagerly awaited editions of fashion week gets underway today: alongside the tribute to Giorgio Armani, who passed away on 4th September at the age of 91, with the exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the fashion house he founded in 1975 that opens tomorrow at the Pinacoteca di Brera (where the celebratory fashion show will be held on Sunday 28th), today it is planned (but not on the calendar, but reserved to an even smaller audience of insiders, the first Gucci collection signed by Demna. A first debut, however, already took place yesterday when a 'taste' of the Gucci family, the name of a ready-to-buy capsule collection that will be immediately on sale in selected stores from 25 September to 12 October, arrived from the maison: images of the 'sciura', the 'it-girl', the 'VIP' and the 'pissed off', presumably souls of a 'shameless, sexy, excessive, provocative' Gucci woman, were shared on the brand's official Instagram account ('cleaned up' of any images from the past). In other looks, key elements of the brand's identity and archive emerged, powerful: the Flora print, the Bamboo Bag, the double G logo and the horsebit on the shoes, but above all the travel trunk, called 'the archetype'. After all, Gucci was born precisely as a suitcase from an idea of Guccio, then a porter at the Savoy in London.

Today's official schedule starts at 3pm with the Diesel show, followed by Dhruv Kapoor, Alberta Ferretti and Iceberg.
