While Milan is in the spotlight for the Salone del Mobile, Lombardy confirms its position as first among Italian regions in terms of turnover, exports, number of companies and employees in the wood-furnishing sector. According to data from the FederlegnoArredo Study Centre, in fact, its 2024 turnover amounts to 10.3 billion euros, divided between wood (3.6 billion) and furniture (6.6 billion). There are slightly more than 8,200 companies and about 51,800 employees.

Lombardy is also the leading region for exports, and in fact accounts for about 30% of total Italian exports worth about 4.8 billion Euro, the largest share of which is due to furniture sales. Exports in 2024 fell slightly (-2.9% for the entire supply chain; -3.2% for furniture) but the USA, which is the leading destination for Lombard furnishings ahead of France and Germany, bucked the trend: +2.5% over 2023 to 430 million euro. Also in the USA, thegrowth in exports of Brianza furniture was four times greater: +10.2% over 2023, for a total of 159 million euros in value. The USA is also the first destination market for furniture produced in the province of Como..

In 2024, exports reached 1.2 billion euro.

Veneto shines with Treviso

In second place in the ranking of regions that shine in the wood-furnishing sector is Veneto: 7.9 billion euro turnover, of which 5.7 billion for furniture and 2.2 billion for wood; 6,200 companies and 45 thousand employees. The Veneto region exports 3.8 billion euro (a little less than a quarter of national exports) of which 3.4 billion for furniture, with France as first market, and just under 452 million euro for wood. And just a province of Veneto, Treviso, with 1,590 companies and almost 21 thousand employees, is the first in Italy for exported value both at chain level (2.2 billion euros, stable at -0.4%) and for furniture (1.8 billion euros at -1% on 2023).

Also on the podium is Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with approximately EUR 4.6 billion in turnover: EUR 1.2 billion for wood and EUR 3.4 billion for furniture. Exports amount to EUR 2.2 billion. There are more than 1,600 companies, while the number of employees exceeds 18,600, most of them employed in furniture (14,000).
