Woodland in the Comoros Islands, 3,500 square metres of termite-proof pine
After the bobsleigh run built in sub-zero temperatures, the new work will be carried out in a tropical climate - Expertise is needed to protect the wood from insects

Key points
An order 7,000 kilometres away from home and with a special feature: termite resistance.
After its work for the Olympics in Milan Cortina, for which it produced the deflectors for the bobsleigh run, the Carnica company Legnolandia is moving to the archipelago of the Comoros Islands. A sports village is being built in the tropical archipelago for the Indian Ocean Games scheduled for 2027.
The project
In the French overseas department of Mayotte, in M'tsangamouji, a design gymnasium is to be built, designed by Atelier Mahorais d'Architecture, which has given the structure a strong bioclimatic approach. For its construction, the authorities have chosen a leading French general contractor who, in turn, has chosen Legnolandia to manufacture the load-bearing structure entirely of glued laminated pine wood and which must have a fundamental additional feature: a special treatment against termites. Legnolandia has long experience in autoclave wood treatments, which is essential to resist the attacks of these insects that are widespread on the island. The Eurostratex plant in Sutrio is designing and building a covered area of 3,500 square metres.
In all conditions
The value of the order for the Legnolandia group is 1.5 million euro and the material will be shipped by ship in 14 containers of 40 feet each. Working on site will be a company team ready and trained for any situation, even climatic ones: "We have just finished the executive design and in the next few days we will start the production of the components," comments president Marino De Santa. In February we will make an inspection on site, and then start laying in March. We expect to complete the installation operations in 100 days using a team of six of our specialised technicians who are used to working in extreme conditions. In fact, while in Cortina they have been working with temperatures constantly below zero, on the Comoros Islands the climate is tropical, with constant sultry heat and, in addition, the monsoon season will begin by then. The Legnolandia Group, however, is now known by contractors, including foreign ones, not only for the quality of its products, but also because it knows how to operate with precision, punctuality and synchronism on complex building sites".
