Xpeng prepares the Erev, five new models with range extender technology
The Chinese brand plans to launch at least five models of electrified extended-range vehicles (Erev ) including sedans and SUVs in order to intercept a different customer base than electric car buyers and increase the model offering accordingly. First deliveries from the end of 2025.
Xpeng plans to launch at least five Erev (Extended range electric vehicle) models, i.e. equipped with systems where the batteries are recharged on board by a heat engine acting as a generator. The new extended-range vehicles will complement the equivalent battery-powered vehicles.
The models will be sedans and SUVs, and range-extender variants of the already sold P7 and G6 are planned. The first model with this powertrain technology by Xpeng is based on the G9 and deliveries will begin by the end of 2025. Further models are expected to be launched between 2026 and 2027. The Erev variants will help Xpeng intercept a user base that is expected to be totally different and prefer Ereve-type hybrids in China, but also in Europe.
EREV technology and Xpeng's strategic vision
At Xpeng, they are serious. Already by the end of 2022, the Chinese brand had discussed internally the way forward with extended-range powertrains, although the future of this new technology was unclear.
