AfD youth imitates Hitler at a rally, party distances itself
Alexander Eichwald, one of the top candidates of 'Generation Germany', the 'talent hothouse' of the German ultra-right, imitated the language of the Nazi leader at a rally on Saturday
Controversy erupts in the German political debate over Alexander Eichwald, one of the top candidates of 'Generation Germany', the 'talent hothouse' of the German ultra-right. Yesterday, with a speech clearly inspired by Adolf Hitler's blatant rallies, dressed in a dinner jacket, waistcoat and tie and with shoulder-length hair, Eichwald stirred up the audience and triggered an uproar within the AfD. The party leadership explicitly distanced itself from the content and style of his candidacy speech, and opened an investigation into his participation in the founding congress of the new youth organisation. Party leader Tino Chrupalla stated that 'with the content and manner of his speech Alexander Eichwald departed from the principles of the party'. At the congress in Giessen, Eichwald stood at the podium and began speaking, punctuating each word and rolling the 'R', reminiscent in style of the Nazi chancellor.
