Zelensky has arrived in Canada for a summit with Prime Minister Carney
The meeting will focus on cooperation in the fields of defence, the economy and energy
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Canada overnight for a series of talks with the country’s leaders, as part of his efforts to strengthen ties with allies. This is according to Canadian media reports.
The programme
In a statement, Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Zelensky’s visit “will focus on the shared priorities between Canada and Ukraine, including deepening cooperation in the fields of defence, the economy and energy”. ““We will also address the human cost of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and highlight the strong people-to-people ties that bind our countries”, the statement continues, adding that Canada “remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defence, recovery and reconstruction”.
The itinerary for the visit
Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska will attend events in Calgary, Toronto and North Bay, as well as meeting with government officials in Banff, Alberta. The visit is expected to conclude on Friday. Zelensky’s arrival in Canada followed a visit to Norway for the funeral of King Harald V and talks on air defence support. Yesterday, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store stated that the plane carrying Zelensky was nearly struck by a drone whilst en route to Oslo.
