Zelensky: ‘A Russian space and missile centre in Samara has been hit’

Last night, forces from Kyiv struck a space and missile centre in the Russian region of Samara, a key facility belonging to the Roscosmos space agency. The announcement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a post on X.
The affected plant
The facility targeted, some 900 kilometres from the border, is the Progress Rocket and Space Centre, one of the cornerstones of the Russian aerospace industry, operated by Roscosmos. The facility produces the Soyuz-2 family of launch vehicles used by Moscow to launch military, reconnaissance and telecommunications satellites into orbit. According to intelligence sources in Kyiv, the rockets manufactured at this facility are also used to deploy the Rassvet satellite constellation, the system Russia is developing as an alternative to the commercial Starlink network.
Air base also attacked
“Our long-range strikes,” continued the Ukrainian president, “have also reached the Savasleyka airbase, where the Russian missile launchers used to strike our towns and villages are based, some 700 kilometres from Ukraine. Our plan for long-range strikes against Russia in this war is being implemented, and it is important that Russia’s military capabilities are reduced. There is a need for peace, and this must be made clear to Russia through tangible damage to specific facilities.”
