Elon Musk is no longer the richest person in the world, then. Musk lost his position at the top of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index to Jeff Bezos after Tesla's shares plummeted 7.2 per cent as deliveries from Shanghai plummeted. Musk now has a net worth of $197.7 billion. Bezos' fortune, on the other hand, amounts to $200.3 billion.

Bezos, 60, founder of Amazon, has not been at the top of Bloomberg's ranking of the richest people since 2021.

The wealth gap between Musk and Bezos, which at one point rose to $142 billion in Musk's favour, has narrowed as Amazon and Tesla shares have moved in opposite directions. Amazon's shares have more than doubled since the end of 2022 and are very close to their record high. Tesla, on the other hand, is down about 50 per cent from its record high in 2021.

Musk's wealth could take a further hit after a Delaware judge voided his $55 billion salary package approved by the board of Tesla, of which he is CEO. The decision sided with an investor who had challenged Musk's compensation plan, which had been the largest in US corporate history.

Million-dollar lawsuit by former Twitter executives

Further trouble for Elon Musk comes from the X front, the former Twitter, the social network bought by the Tesla founder. Four former Twitter executives, including former CEO Parag Agrawal, have sued Elon Musk for more than $128 million in unpaid severance pay. Upon his arrival, Musk had fired Agrawal, along with former chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde and former general counsel Sean Edget.
