100 million euro (previously unused) recovered for the Cinema and Audiovisual Fund
"Resources and confidence despite necessary and substantial cuts in the manoeuvre," explains Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli in announcing the signing of the decree
An interministerial decree will allocate more than 100 million euros to the Film and Audiovisual Fund. "These are sums that have been unused since 2022 - a further part of which will remain payable for the year 2026 - and which with this decree we redirect to the refinancing of the Fund," announces the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli. "Under the given conditions, despite the necessary and consistent cuts provided for in the Budget Law, having made more transparent and virtuous procedures for accessing tax credit; after having drained the grey areas of arbitrariness in which a few unscrupulous people enriched themselves behind the backs of the numerous workers in the sector; today the Ministry of Culture comes to the aid of the film value chain, confirming its resources and trust: from workers to producers via technicians, scriptwriters, directors and so on'.
"Other extraordinary financing"
For the minister, 'this is an act of collective responsibility, pending the countersignature of the Mef, which goes hand in hand with the work underway on the Entertainment Code and which adds to the heart of the MiC's mission: the protection, conservation and valorisation of cultural heritage, never before the focus of our attention and soon to be the recipients of other extraordinary funding'.
Orfini (Pd): Amateur Giulians, funds already accrued by companies
"To Minister Giuli we say one thing: no more. No more joking, no more mocking the world of cinema, no more improvising, no more playing the three-card game. The announcement of the recovery of 100 million for the cinema fund is yet another absurdity'. This is the retort in a note by the Democratic deputy and member of the Chamber's culture committee, Matteo Orfini. "Those resources are taken from automatic contributions for the development production and distribution of cinema. Contributions already accrued by companies and blocked since 2022 due to the slowness and amateurism of this government. Taking them away from their legitimate recipients means jeopardising the survival of companies and exposing the ministry to a myriad of appeals because - we repeat - those contributions have already accrued. Does the government really think it can manage a strategic industrial sector with such amateurism? If you really want to correct the mistake made with the budget law, there is only one serious way: ask Giorgetti not to countersign the decree and to renounce the cut in the budget law. The rest is clumsy and harmful propaganda
