The progressive ageing of the Italian population presents the bill. In Italy in 2025 families will need the support of about 2 million 288 thousand domestic staff to meet their care needs: 1 million 524 thousand foreign workers and 764 thousand Italians. And about 1.25 million caregivers and 1 million 262 thousand domestic helpers. These are the estimates contained in the third paper of the 2024 Report "Family (Net) Work - Workshop on home, family and domestic work", presented on Wednesday 3 July by Assindatcolf and the Idos Study and Research Centre, author of the research entitled "The need for Italian and foreign domestic workforce in Italy. Estimate 2023-2025 by regions'. The total need of around 2 million 288,000 domestic helpers includes not only households with workers already on the books, but also employers of domestic helpers and caregivers without a contract and people who would like to hire but for a variety of reasons, including economic ones, have not yet done so.
