A course on managing assets seized from the Mafia
The role and responsibilities of chartered accountants at the Association of Chartered Accountants’ conference
To support the development of the profession, by playing a leading role in society and, of course, by bringing its expertise to the fore in the economy. But it is precisely these business, corporate and tax skills that can be emphasised in resolving difficulties and in creating and supporting opportunities within the broad scope of the social economy.
This is a principle to which the Association of Chartered Accountants (ADC) remains committed. Today, in Catanzaro, the Association’s conference is dedicated to ‘The economy of rebirth: accountants, institutions and the local area – restoring value to the community’. The focus is on the management of seized and confiscated assets, with the aim of returning them to the community, preserving their economic function whilst emphasising their social role, and promoting sound entrepreneurial forces, young people and workers. The conference takes place from 9 am at the San Giovanni Monumental Complex.
The role of the chartered accountant
It is Gianluca Tartaro, the president of Adc, who highlights the significance of the conference, which will feature speakers including magistrates, professionals working to recover assets seized from criminal organisations, social workers and university lecturers.
‘We aim to take a broad, “wide-angle” view, capable of taking in the horizon without losing sight of depth. ‘It is a path,’ says Tartaro, ‘that we have chosen to follow for a reason that is as simple as it is profound: because the accountant, for us, is not merely a technician preoccupied with cold figures, but a living part of the country’s social and economic fabric.’
In line with this approach, we can outline the future of the profession: “We want to remain firmly rooted in the society that gave rise to us and which we continue to serve,” explains Tartaro.
