Exciting news for video professionals: Adobe has released the latest version of Premiere Pro (25.2), introducing new artificial intelligence-based features that promise to simplify and speed up editing work.
Generative Extend: AI lengthens video and audio clips
.The most eagerly awaited new feature is Generative Extend, a tool that uses Adobe's Firefly AI model to lengthen video clips by up to two seconds, without the need to shoot new footage. Ideal for adding fluidity to transitions or correcting sudden movements, this function also supports 4K quality and can extend ambient audio up to ten seconds (or two seconds if synchronised with video extension). Generative Extend will be free for a limited period, after which it will require Firefly credits. Creative Cloud subscribers receive a variable number of credits each month (from 25 to 1,000, depending on the plan) and can purchase more from EUR 9.20 per month for 2,000 credits. The cost in credits for the extension will depend on the format, frame rate and resolution of the video.
AI-powered search and advanced colour management
.Another major innovation is the AI search panel, which allows clips to be found within the library simply by describing them with text, e.g. 'close-ups of hands working in the kitchen'. Thanks to the automatic recognition of objects and scenes, this function greatly simplifies the management of video archives. In addition, Premiere Pro introduces Premiere Colour Management, a new colour pipeline that automatically transforms log and raw files into SDR or HDR, improving visuals from import and making working with materials from different sources more intuitive.
Subtitles in 27 languages and improved performance
.For those working with multilingual content, Premiere Pro now offers automatic subtitle translation in 27 languages and the ability to view multiple tracks simultaneously. Adobe has also optimised overall performance, providing increased speed on both Apple Silicon and Windows.
New features also for After Effects 25.2
.In parallel with the Premiere Pro update, After Effects version 25.2 was also released, introducing new features for HDR monitoring, animation controls, support for 3D FBX models and animated ambient light effects. In addition, the new 'High Performance Preview Playback' feature makes it easier to preview longer compositions thanks to a revamped caching system that utilises both RAM and local disks.
