The green light has been given for the export of Italian-grown pears to Ecuador. The agreement on the Work Plan between Italia and Ecuador has been successfully finalised, as confirmed by the publication of the Plan in recent days on the website of the Ecuadorian plant health authority, Agrocalidad. This publication confirms that it has come into force.
A round of negotiations that began in 2021 has come to an end
This brings to a close a negotiation process that began in 2021 and culminated, in September 2025, with a visit to Italia by two Ecuadorian inspectors, organised by the Fruit and Vegetable Service Centre (CSO Italy), who had verified compliance with the conditions set out in the protocol directly in the fields and at the processing plants.
A new opportunity outside Europe
This is a significant achievement, made possible by collaboration between businesses, the Emilia-Romagna Region’s Plant Health Service and the Ministry of Agriculture, which will now open up new commercial opportunities for Italian pears outside Europe.
“Ecuador,” commented Simona Rubbi, head of international relations at Cso Italy, “could be an alternative destination for diversifying markets and tackling the difficulties linked to the current geopolitical situation. Furthermore, transit times are short, which is a further advantage.”

In order to implement the Plan, the companies concerned must now verify that they meet the requirements set out in the protocol and draw up lists of the farms and orchards intended for export.
