AI, autonomy and camera: Samsung strengthens the mid-range with the Galaxy A57 and A37 5G

The smartphone market continues to be dominated by the mid-range: a well-known assumption, validated by sales data recorded both on the Italia market and on a global scale. According to the latest GFK surveys, in fact, smart phones between €300 and €600 account for more than half of all smart phones sold in Italy, confirming a trend towards rationalisation of spending by consumers, who are constantly seeking the "right" balance between price and performance. IDC's data, on the other hand, broaden the analysis on a worldwide basis and confirm that the growth of this segment - which will return to growth in 2025 - is driven precisely by mid-range models, which are increasingly rich in advanced functions, particularly those related to artificial intelligence. And it is precisely this segment that Samsung, ahead of everyone else in terms of market share, continues to preside over with its Galaxy A series.

The Korean manufacturer relaunches with two new models, the Galaxy A57 5G and the Galaxy A37 5G, on sale from 10 April, which focus on AI, imaging and performance while maintaining an affordable positioning. List prices set for the Italia market start at €549.90 for the former (in the configuration with 8 GByte memory and 128 Gbyte storage space) and €449.90 (in the version with 6 Gbyte and 128 Gbyte memory) for the latter. The plus that accompanies these devices is the 'Awesome Intelligence' artificial intelligence platform, reflecting the stated aim of extending the AI experience to a broader audience by making features hitherto typical of premium models accessible. Based on the new One UI 8.5 interface, the two smartphones provide tools such as automatic voice transcription for converting audio recordings and messages into text, and an intelligent content selection function for extracting information or images with simplified interaction. There is also support for well-known functions such as 'Circle and Search' developed with Google, now enhanced with multi-object recognition, while conversational agents based on the updated version of the Bixby assistant and integration with Gemini for managing complex tasks between different applications come into play to make the user experience even more advanced.

In mid-range smartphones, the quality of the photographic compartment is often one of the main purchase drivers, and the Galaxy A57 5G and A37 5G respond to this trend in essence by integrating a triple camera system with a 50-megapixel main sensor, supported by an improved image processor compared to previous versions. The rest is once again done by artificial intelligence, which intervenes in scene and subject recognition, automatically optimising parameters such as exposure, contrast and skin tone. The Nightography mode, in particular, promises brighter and more detailed shots even in low light, while editing tools such as the Object Eraser allow unwanted elements to be removed with more natural results. On the A57, there are also advanced features such as 'Best Face', designed for group photos, and simplified video editing tools. Rounding out the equipment on the imaging front are an ultra-wide-angle lens for larger scenes and a 5-megapixel macro lens for close-up details.

Samsung's move to position the Galaxy A57 5G as the flagship model of the new range is also evident in the performance aspect, thanks to an overall upgrade of the hardware platform involving CPU, GPU and neural unit. The result is improved phone operability in applications such as multitasking, streaming and content creation. Particular attention has been paid to battery life, with a 5,000 mAh battery promising up to two days of use, while fast charging allows up to 60 per cent of usage in about half an hour. Two final notes about the display, very generous in size (6.7 inches diagonally) and based on Super Amoled+ technology, and the robustness and security attributes, summarised in the IP68 certification for water and dust resistance and the six generations of software and security updates guaranteed.
