Antarctica, Enea seeks 5 technicians and researchers for the Concordia base
They will spend a year in one of the harshest environments on the planet

For the next expedition, Enea is looking for five technicians and researchers who will spend a year at the Italian-French base Concordia from November 2026 to the same month the following year. Among the profiles destined for Concordia for the winter mission, which this year will involve a total of 14 participants from Italy and France, three people with experience in astrophysics, chemistry/glaciology and atmospheric physics and two technical experts in ICT/radio and electronics are being sought. Participants in the winter campaign will have the opportunity to live and work in one of the most challenging and extraordinary environments on the planet, Concordia being a completely autonomous outpost located on the Antarctic plateau at an altitude of 3,233 metres, considered, due to the extreme temperatures and total darkness during the winter months, to be an Earth analogue of a space station.
The professional figures required in detail are: 2 technical experts in ICT/radio and electronics. They will work at Concordia during the 23rd winter campaign. Only employees of public bodies and universities with the approval of their structure can apply. They will work together with 3 scientific researchers with expertise in astrophysics chemistry/glaciology and atmospheric physics.
The working environment for these technicians and researchers is by far one of the most challenging and difficult to live in. Not only because the Italo-French Concordia base is inside the Antarctic continent, but the two teams will remain in complete isolation for a full nine months. The selection process includes a preliminary assessment of qualifications and requirements, followed by an individual interview aimed at deepening the candidate's technical knowledge, previous experience and professionalism in relation to the role to be filled. During the interview, there will also be a psycho-aptitude test aimed at assessing personal characteristics and compatibility with the operational context in extreme environments. Personnel who have passed the interview phase will participate in a further training, information and selection process, together with the specialised medical examinations envisaged for personnel destined to work in Antarctica.
