The Tavernellow, a three-degree sparkling wine, arrives: this is how Caviro also debuts in 'no-lo' wines
Entry into the partially distilled market thanks to a new plant in Savignano sul Panaro (Modena): investment of over 1.8 million euro and a capacity of 9 million bottles per year
Alcohol-free wines are now a (niche) reality in Italy too, but perhaps even more so is the trend towards lighter drinks that is gaining ground among consumer tastes, who have long been favouring wines that are not too alcoholic and 'easier' to drink (perhaps for aperitifs) or to match. Especially if they are bubbles, with the case of Prosecco being a worldwide phenomenon by now. In this context comes the move by Caviro, Italy's leading wine cooperative (over 350 million euro turnover), which is launching a low-alcohol version of its famous Tavernello, the'Tavernellow'.
Caviro - the leading wine co-operative with over 35 thousand hectares under vine and 150 million litres of wine that exports to 90 countries - debuts with its "sparkling wine partially dealcolated, produced and bottled entirely in Italia", thanks to a new dealcolation plant in Savignano sul Panaro (Modena) and a total investment of over 1.8 million Euro, realised in about 12 months and occupying an area of 200 square metres: is capable of reaching aproduction capacity of up to 30 thousand litres per day, with an annual potential of over 9 million bottles. The system makes it possible to produce NoLo wines with alcohol contents below 9% vol. up to near zero vol. (alcohol free), opening up new development possibilities for the Italia vineyard.
"With Tavernellow we want to offer a product that responds to new consumption styles, without sacrificing quality and the wine experience. Being one of the pioneers to produce and bottle low-alcohol wines entirely in Italia represents a very important milestone for Caviro: it is the result of our constant commitment to research and innovation, our dedication to the supply chain, and our attention to consumer evolution," comments Giampaolo Bassetti, Group General Manager.
Tavernellow," the company explains, "is the result of traditional vinification, followed by a controlled process of partial dealcoholisation that reduces the alcohol content 'while maintaining the wine's organoleptic profile and sensory balance'.
Tavernellow 3% will be previewed at Vinitaly and subsequently available on the shelves in major retail outlets in two versions:white and rosé.
