Turning the tables. This is the objective with which the Consortium of Asti and Moscato d'Asti is launching the new sparkling, sweet, rosé wine. A unicum in the oenological panorama at least in Italy, an entirely new product that will be produced in quantities of between 5 and 10 million bottles in the first year.

A completely new product, therefore, that will be officially presented at Vinitaly 2026 after the amendment to the production specifications was published in the Official Journal on 23 March last, at the end of a process that began in 2023.

"A sparkling wine that was not created for ritual toasts," explain the Consorzio di tutela, "but to fit in with more contemporary modes of consumption in order to intercept a new, more aware and curious public. It will be a predominantly sweet sparkling wine, although there will also be sec and demi-sec versions. A wine with an eye on international markets and the objective of positioning itself in a price range slightly above the denomination's average".

With its publication in the Official Journal, the product can be offered in all variants, from sweet to extra brut, leaving the wineries ample margin for stylistic customisation, also according to the needs of the different target markets.

The new bubbly (which can be bottled thirty days after publication in the Gazzetta Ufficiale) will be made with a blend composed of Moscato grapes destined for Asti Docg (from 70% to 90%) and Brachetto grapes destined for Brachetto d'Acqui Docg (from 10% to 30%).

"To date," continue the Consortium, "there are about ten companies that have started pre-production or experimentation, but the number is destined to increase in the coming months. The interest already shown by distributors and importers of Piedmontese aromatic sparkling wines confirms that Europe (including the United Kingdom), North America and - in perspective - Russia represent the main outlets at the moment, without forgetting the domestic market'.

"The entry of Asti Rosé in the specifications represents an important step that enhances the history and oenological identity of our territory," commented the President of the Asti Docg Consortium, Stefano Ricagno. "It is a unicum on the Italia scene, capable of uniting two grape varieties that are both aromatic. At Vinitaly we will symbolically celebrate this milestone, the first step on a path destined to develop over the coming months. With this new type, we want to intercept new consumers and new opportunities for consumption, overcoming a traditional interpretation linked to specific moments and opening up the denomination to increasingly versatile and topical ways of enjoyment.

On the target audience front, the Consortium's initial surveys identify a predominantly female public, between the ages of 35 and 50: consumers who are familiar with wine, attentive to quality and inclined to experimentation.
