The 'wide field' breaks through at the children's film festival. The third last day of #Giffoni54 is under the banner of politics, with the meeting between the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, and the president of the M5S, Giuseppe Conte, taking centre stage. Also arriving at Giffoni are the founder of the Community of Sant'Egidio and the return of Ermete Realacci and Father Enzo Fortunato. On the eighth day of the 2024 edition, the Giffoni Film Festival also names a room in the Multimedia Valley after a historic friend of Giffoni, sociologist Domenico De Masi.
It was Elly Schlein who kicked off yet another day full of meetings. At the centre of her speech was the possibility of unity between the parties to oppose the government coalition. 'In recent times,' she said, 'we have been stubbornly united because we are aware that no party, no force today in opposition is sufficient to determine an alternative to the Meloni government. We must therefore unite our forces and do so on concrete issues'. However, 'before reasoning about perimeters we must agree on the things to be done for Italy. We need generosity and mutual recognition. I do not believe in abstract formulas, coalitions that win are not born in a test tube, they are made between different people and value differences. We must make this alliance on issues'.
Conte also speaks of unity. Who converges with Schlein on the 'need for unity, the leaders of the broad camp repeat it'. And again: 'This need for unity is very much felt among the people I meet. It takes time but we are not shying away from it. We want a serious, credible project. We want to offer an alternative, but also a perspective of real change for the country'. For the M5S leader, not only the meeting with the young people, but also the naming ceremony of the Innovation Hub coworking room after the sociologist De Masi, who died a year ago. Also present at the unveiling of the plaque was De Masi's wife, Susi del Santo. "Today we dedicate this beautiful Innovation Hub room to Domenico De Masi, where right now 40 young people from all over Italy are studying how to solve business problems," commented Claudio Gubitosi, creator and founder of the Giffoni Film Festival.
Also at Giffoni was Romana Maggiora, the Roman actress who is Marcella in Paola Cortellesi's film C'è ancora domani. "Paola Cortellesi's film has shone a light on a subject that is never talked about enough. Physical abuse and psychological violence against women, the latter much more insidious, must never remain in the shadows. I am proud to have been a part of it'. Laughter, for Giffoners, thanks to The Jackal. The spotlight is on the second edition of Avrei questa idea, the Giffoni Innovation Hub video-podcast format. It's back with a lot of new features, starting with the conduction itself, which passes into the hands of Ciro Priello, Aurora Leone, Fabio Balsamo and Gianluca "Fru" Colucci, members of The Jackal. Together with Giffoni Innovation Hub they are co-producing this second season of the travelling format dedicated to the best film and TV series pitches.
On the cinema side, Giffoni hosts the protagonists of the brand new series Never too late, a Rai Fiction co-production with Propaganda Italia, with Italian distribution on Rai Play and international distribution by Rai Com. Federica Pontremoli, Camilla Paternò and Simona Coppini in collaboration with Salvatore de Chirico wrote this courageous teen series and de Chirico himself, together with Lorenzo Vignolo, directed it. The work is the winner of the Trenitalia Green Award. The recognition by Trenitalia, the leading company of the Passenger Hub of the Italian FS Group and Official Green Carrier of the festival, is motivated by the "contribution that the series offers in the education of the culture of sustainability towards the new generations, but also for the positive effect that it can generate towards the audiovisual industry". The eighth day of #Giffoni54 closes with a highly anticipated preview:The Magical World of Harold. In Italian cinemas from 12 September, Carlos Saldanha's new film, produced by Sony Pictures and distributed by Eagle Pictures, is somewhere between Live-Action Family Adventure and Comedy. The director of Rio and The Ice Age returns to the big screen strongly celebrating the power of imagination. At Giffoni sport, the president of Virtus Bologna, Massimo Zanetti, Daitona with the Federazione Sport Sordi Italia, Katia Sera, former footballer and RAI commentator.
