Two missing persons between Sardinia and Liguria, trapped motorists, landslides, interrupted roads, as well as flooded countryside with shepherds on the roofs of sheepfolds. The bad weather continues to make itself felt and, although in some cases the state of alert is beginning to wane, attention remains high.
Southern Sardinia soaking
Throughout the night, southern Sardinia has been soaked and now the damage caused by the bad weather that raged overnight is beginning to be counted. During the night alone, the Cagliari Fire Brigade operations room received 160 calls for help from people trapped in their cars or others stranded inside farms.
The rain of six months in just a few hours
.Clarifying what happened in the middle of the night and specifying that it was not a 'classic autumn storm' is Matteo Tidili, meteorologist Raimeteo, on his social page;
"What happened during the night was a full-blown flash flood due to a storm system that remained stationary over the same areas for several hours, self-healing and unloading torrential rainfall and accumulations of up to 300 mm, as you can appreciate from the radar footage covering part of the night just gone," he writes. Rain of more than 6 months concentrated in a few hours is certainly not the norm but an exceptional and extreme event, and it is from here that all considerations must start. To ignore climate change and the intensification of meteorological events, always pointing the finger only at the manhole cover and maintenance, is to overlook a reality that now has obvious consequences';
A missing person in Sulcis
The first balance, even though it has started raining again in some centres, is heavy. In fact, there is a missing person in the Lower Sulcis countryside at Nuxis. The fire brigade's 'Drago' helicopter was also deployed for the search. Ground personnel also supported the search with the Speleo alpino fluviale. At Monte Arcosu, a group of eight boys was rescued by the fire brigade early in the morning.
