Beer, excise duty reduction for the next two years

AssoBirra expresses satisfaction with thereduction of excise duties on beer for the years 2026 and 2027. The measure, contained within the Budget Law 2026, had been repeatedly requested by the association itself, after an initial period of suspension experienced a few years ago, and in a not exactly happy moment for the trend of production and consumption.

The rate of excise duty on beer will fall to EUR 2.98 per hectolitre and per degree-Plate, compared to the current EUR 2.99, for the years 2026 and 2027, an intervention that lightens the tax burden and supports the competitiveness of businesses.

"This is a concrete sign of attention to a strategic sector of the Italian agri-food industry that generates over EUR 10 billion a year in shared value, contributes about EUR 4 billion to general taxation (of which EUR 1.5 billion in VAT and EUR 689 million in excise duties) and employs more than 110 thousand people,' reads a note from the Association.

The reduction in excise duties is a step in the direction AssoBirra has repeatedly called for, namely 'a fairer tax framework in line with the European context, capable of supporting the competitiveness of companies and freeing up resources to be reinvested in innovation, sustainability, production quality and employment'.
