Beppe Grillo 'espouses' Musk's worldview: 'There is a red thread that binds us'

In the days when, in Italy, the name of Elon Musk bounces from Matteo Salvini to Sergio Mattarella, even Beppe Grillo, from his blog, decides to bring up the founder of Tesla (and owner of X). The guarantor of the 5-Star Movement, publishing a sociological analysis by Isaac J.P. Barrow, points out that 'although Grillo doesn't dream of playing with stars and rockets, as Musk does, there is a red thread linking their worldviews. From Universal Income to the fight against disinformation, from technological innovation to social justice, from robotics to sustainable mobility'.

"Among the many points Musk seems to want to push," Barrow writes, "one resonates strongly, as if to build a bridge between the giants of innovation and the digital squares we hold dear: Universal Income. In all this, we cannot help but think of the founder of the 5 Star Movement, Beppe Grillo. Because if there is someone who has been talking about Universal Income as a cure to the evils of capitalism for over 20 years in Italy, it is him, the man who turned a bitter laugh into a political movement.

Musk, it goes on to say, 'offers young people the promise of a technological world. Grillo, like Musk, has been a forerunner of issues, of visions, and for over 30 years has been talking about the need to solve problems here and now: the environment, work, social rights, economic justice'. The politics of Musk and Grillo "is a politics of concrete, innovative and bold solutions, which he sees between now and 2050, and beyond", adds Barrow, who then concludes with "the ideas of Elon Musk and Beppe Grillo no longer seem so distant".

As widely announced, Donald Trump has nominated Elon Musk to head of the Department for Government Efficiency, a position outside the administration through which the ceo of X will have to advise the president-elect on how to reduce the spending of the bureaucracy. Working with Musk will be former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. For the Pentagon, Trump has chosen an anchorman from Fox, the tycoon's right-wing television megaphone, Pete Hegseth, while to lead the CIA he has chosen Texas Congressman John Ratcliffe, former director of National Intelligence.
