Matteo Bianchi gives up Umberto Bossi's seat: room for Manuela Maffioli in the Chamber
Bianchi chooses to continue his local and international commitment, leaving his parliamentary seat to Manuela Maffioli, who thus makes her debut as an MP for the League.
No one is worthy to replace Umberto Bossi: with this motivation Matteo Bianchi, former mayor of Morazzone, former mayoral candidate in Varese and Carroccio deputy until 2018, explained his decision not to take over the Chamber in place of the founder of the Lega who died on 19 March.
"The passing of Umberto Bossi," he noted, "marks a human and political transition that deserves respect and awareness. No one can truly claim to be worthy of replacing him. After reflecting and sharing this decision with those closest to me, I have decided not to proceed with the takeover'.
Taking over the Chamber will therefore be Manuela Maffioli, former deputy mayor of Busto Arsizio.
Bianchi explained that his is a 'choice that stems not from a renunciation, but from a conviction: today I can be more useful to the territories, continuing the work that I am doing, every day, between Lombardy and Europe.
I extend my sincere thanks to the League and to its secretary Matteo Salvini for the path they have shared and for the work they carry out daily in the service of the country. In this final stage of the legislature, it also seemed right to meto leave room for those who have never had the opportunity to play the role of deputy, thus contributing, each with their own path, to the life of the institutions and personal growth'.
