Quintals of fresh bread made from 100% Apulian durum wheat semolina were distributed throughout the morning to passengers departing from Bari and Brindisi airports to destinations in Italy (Bologna, Venice and Bergamo) and abroad (Vienna, London, Budapest, Munich, Barcelona and Zurich).
This is how World Bread Day, which falls every year on 16 October and coincides with Food Day, was celebrated. Oropan spa of Altamura, a historic bakery company active since 1956, present in 23 countries (in Europe, Asia and America), with 2.100 outlets served in Italy and a turnover of 40 million achieved by 2023.
Thanks to this initiative, organised in partnership with Aeroporti di Puglia, which manages the regional airports, all passengers took with them on their journey and then to their destination, a rich foodstuff, a symbol of made in Puglia and of an entire community.
"It is not just a product," comments Lucia Forte, Oropan's CEO, "it is a product. Each loaf, like ours from Altamura, tells the story of a territory and of a farming art of the Alta Murgia handed down through generations. And it is a symbol that can become a powerful tool for narration and connection between peoples and communities'.
