Alien: Planet Earth airing from August on Disney+ (one episode a week sigh) for those who are early fans of the xenomorph is something new because it is not about replicating the claustrophobic horror of the original film. It has a distinct identity, the aesthetic of Alien but tells a different story. It is set in 2120, only two years before the events of the original 1979 Alien film. Unlike most of the films, this story takes place on Earth, which is controlled by five powerful corporations. There you will find Metropolis and Blade Runner (lots of that) and passionate 1990s sci-fi writing. You don't jump in your chair but you do discover new alien beasts. And then there's perhaps the most Zuckerberg-like portrait of the young hi-tech billionaire in years.

As for September apart from the second series finale on Wednesday on Netflix of note is Gen V which promises to intertwine with the fourth of The Boys offering a new 'lore' on the origins of dysfunctional superheroes. And there is also the third season of Alice in Borderland which is not Squid Games that didn't make it as some believe but a dystopian immersion into the brutality of gaming. Translated, it is less political and ideological but more compelling than Squid Games. Enjoy.

Hotel Costiera - Season 1 - 17 September

The story follows Daniel De Luca (played by Jesse Williams), a former Italian-American marine who returns to Italy, the country of his childhood, to work as a problem solver in a luxurious hotel on the Amalfi Coast. His life takes an unexpected turn when the hotel owner's daughter disappears, forcing him to use his skills to find her. Why am I reporting this? Because there is a bit of Italy in it. Full stop. I don't have high expectations just the feeling that it might be a surprise. (Prime Video)
