Budget law at the final sprint: text in the House. The government asks for a vote of confidence

For the budget bill 2026 comes the last act with a foregone conclusion. The Budget Committee of the Chamber of Deputies has concluded, on schedule, the examination of the Budget Bill, deciding to give the mandate to the rapporteurs (Andrea Barabotti of the League, Andrea Mascaretti of Fdi and Roberto Pella of FI) to report to the Assembly on the text of the Manovra. It started with the general debate, in the evening the government asked for a vote of confidence. The request was formalised in the House by the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani. The vote will take place tomorrow evening after 8 p.m., the examination of the agendas will follow. The final vote on the manoeuvre is expected on Tuesday at around 1 p.m.

The manoeuvre has arrived armoured in the House for the second reading, where everything will be closed in four days. Remaining in the Senate for 63 days for what Economy Minister Gianfranco Giorgetti himself described as a 'tortuous path', the road is now paved and the parliamentary agenda has set 30 December as the final vote in the Chamber of Deputies.

During the parliamentary scrutiny, especially with the arrival of the government's latest amendment, the manoeuvre rose. The bar of the financial effects stands at 22.3 billion in 2026. The impact remains at 22 billion in 2027 and then flexes to 20.6 billion in 2028. The cornerstones have not changed, even though regulations intended to affect the habits of Italians have also been included, such as the EUR 2 tax on purchases on small non-EU parcels up to EUR 150 in value.

No changes are expected with respect to the text already approved by the Senate: otherwise the text would have to return to Palazzo Madama for a third reading, but there would be no time for final approval and the provisional exercise would be triggered. The final go-ahead for the budget bill should arrive on 30 December.
