Key points
- Occhiuto: we prevented us from fighting through the courts
- Forza Italia first party at 18.41%, centre-right over 60%
- The governor's approval
- Tajani: you win politically in the centre
- Salvini: great victory, on the other side those who devastate cities
- Conte: thanks to Tridico, election campaign on the rise
The governor in the hunt for an encore Roberto Occhiuto overcame in Calabria with almost 60% and his centre-left opponent Pasquale Tridico stopped 18 points behind, without touching 40%. An important gap, considering the 43% turnout and an abstentionism that again does not reflect the indignation of the squares. A figure that still photographs, as in Marche, the insufficient attractiveness of the broad field. Rewarded instead was the choice of the centre-right candidate Occhiuto, burdened with a notice of guarantee, to resign and run again so as not to be worn down by the corruption accusation. Fi's list results were excellent (first party at 19) and Occhiuto's list exploit (13%). Forza Italia and its candidate are well over 30% and alone Occhiuto takes more votes than Fdl (11%), the premier's party that is not leading this time. "
Occhiuto: we have prevented ourselves from being beaten by the courts
'In a civilised country, no one resigns because of a warning. I would not like this gesture to be misinterpreted. Every part of the State, every power must do its job, but too often judicial investigations are instrumentalised to defeat those who would not have been defeated. We have prevented this'. This was said by the newly-read President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, speaking in Gizzeria after the first election results.
