Caporalato, Calderone: 'We will make ten thousand inspections, also with drones'
On the issue of the minimum wage in agriculture, the Minister of Labour replies that 'the answer to exploitation does not lie in an abstract economic parameter, potentially emptied of protection, but in the strengthening of collective bargaining and the transparency of the supply chain. Demagogic recipes are of no use'
"We use the best technologies, including drones. In 2025, we carried out more than 10 thousand inspections between Calabria and Basilicata and we will repeat the same number in 2026'. Thus the Minister of Labour, Marina Calderone, in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
On the case of Amendolara, Calabria, where labourers were burnt alive, Calderone said: 'These are images of unprecedented gravity, which demand a firm response from the State: we must be implacable towards those who commit such heinous crimes.
"No to demagogic recipes"
Can one speak of slavery in Italia?, asks the newspaper. 'What is emerging are unacceptable phenomena of irregularity and exploitation, which we counter every day. Phenomena that are often controlled by organised crime, including foreign crime,' replies Minister Calderone.
And could the minimum wage, in agriculture, help? 'I fear that the phenomenon is much more complex. The answer to exploitation does not lie in an abstract economic parameter, potentially emptied of protection, but in the strengthening of collective bargaining and the transparency of the supply chain. Demagogic recipes are of no use'.
Harsher legislative measures are needed, such as a 'black sticker' for exploiters and rewards for the virtuous, Calderone explains: 'blatant violations of the rules are addressed with the already existing sanctioning and penal instruments, which we apply without discounts'.
