Green light in Sardinia for the planning of community hospitals. The approval comes from the regional executive with the approval of the updated planning of community hospitals, within the framework of the broader reorganisation of territorial care envisaged by Ministerial Decree No. 77 and financed through the resources of the National Research Programme - Mission 6 Health.

The measure redefines the distribution and number of beds in intermediate facilities throughout the region, with the aim of responding more effectively to the needs of a population characterised by a high ageing rate and a growing incidence of chronic diseases.
"With this act, we are concretely strengthening proximity healthcare, building a more solid territorial network capable of responding to the real needs of citizens," said Region President Alessandra Todde, who is in charge of healthcare. The community hospitals represent a fundamental element in guaranteeing continuity of care, reducing improper admissions, and improving the quality of care throughout Sardinia'.
More beds
The new planning 'aims to gradually increase the number of beds, exceeding the minimum targets set at national level and reaching up to 0.3 beds per thousand inhabitants, in order to guarantee a greater capacity for taking care of post-acute patients and to decongest acute hospitals'.
Widespread Network
The plan updates the location of community hospitals on a territorial basis, defining a widespread network for all eight local health authorities. For each territory, the operating sites are identified, often within existing hospital wards or reconverted health facilities, and the relative allocation of beds, with funding mainly from the Pnrr. The distribution involves the entire island. In Northern Sardinia (Asl of Sassari and Gallura), facilities are planned in Sassari, Ozieri, Ittiri, Olbia, La Maddalena and Tempio Pausania; in the inland areas (Nuoro and Ogliastra) in Nuoro, Macomer, Sorgono and Lanusei. In the Centre-West (Oristano and Medio Campidano) in Ghilarza, Bosa and San Gavino. In the South (Sulcis Iglesiente and Cagliari) in Iglesias, Cagliari, Muravera and Isili.
