Carnet of experiences in Mantua between ancient and contemporary art

by Luca Bergamin

It is the winter of art and architecture in Mantua, which after having been the Manhattan of the Renaissance thanks to its many towers, is now an increasingly attractive cultural destination. The winged perspectives that have been created on the roofs, around the domes, the dizzying views offered by the restoration of Palazzo del Podestà and della Ragione, the opening of the Clock Tower, where by opening the small windows individually one can watch the three lakes come into view, take one's breath away. While the Reggia di Palazzo Ducale has reopened three rooms in the Corte Vecchia such as the Camera di Giove e Giunone, the Camera di Leda and the so-called Stufetta, which have unveiled neoclassical decorations visible in the new, wider itinerary, the Corraini Gallery, the Casa Museo dei Conti d'Arco, and the ancient collections of Palazzo San Sebastiano, which include Egyptian and Mesopotamian art, are also claiming deserved attention. Not forgetting that Museo Diocesano Francesco Gonzaga exhibiting L'istante della Grazia - Annunciazioni di Giuseppe Bazzani. The carnet of artistic experiences is therefore gluttonous, not forgetting the delicacies of the Forneria Scaravelli and the romance of a night spent in the highest suite of the Grand Hotel San Lorenzo, to give a nod to the Rotonda below, built in 1032.
