Green light for the budget: IRPEF at 33 per cent on earnings up to 55,000 euros, flat tax on earnings up to 100,000 euros
Prime Minister Meloni: the budget bill is worth a total of around 26 billion; the abolition of vehicle tax is a structural measure
The Council of Ministers has given the go-ahead to the 2027 draft budget bill, which “is worth a total of approximately 26 billion euros”, said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a press conference following the meeting. Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti described it as a ‘serious’ budget: ‘I hope that the debate in Parliament will remain true to this course of action’.
The Prime Minister outlined the main measures included in her government’s fifth budget bill. “The threshold for the second IRPEF bracket (33%, editor’s note) is being raised to 55,000 euros a year,” announced Meloni. “The maximum benefit is €500 a year” and the cost is “€1.2 billion”.
The threshold for eligibility for the flat tax scheme for the self-employed, Meloni said, is rising ‘from 85 to 100,000 euros’.
In this budget, ‘we are making the car tax, as we had approved it at one of the most recent Cabinet meetings. This means no vehicle tax on cars with low and medium power outputs, up to 80 kilowatts, and on motorbikes. We’re talking about around 70 per cent of vehicles on the road.
“We have decided to use part of Nec Energia’s resources to fit all schools with air-conditioning units and heat pumps and make our classrooms more comfortable,” announced Meloni.
